PPSS Hardware Super-Saver Advantages

Fair Pricing

Purchasing hardware from a software provider is convenient, but at what cost? For example, the TSC 244 printer is $379. Elsewhere it's $500 plus $100 'per incident' for help with the printer after just 30 days.

Cables, installation CDs and manuals are included in quoted prices - no add-ons.

Reliability

POS-X equipment is delivered to most locations in 2 business days with 2-to-5-year warranties, 30-day DOA replacement, 2-day replacement thereafter (with optional paid 1-day replacement). The TSC printer has a 2-year warranty and ships in 3-4 business days. Zebra printers aren't recommended but 'should work'.

Volume Discounts

Pawn stores often start on shoe-string budgets. We help with discounts on larger orders. For example, PPSS Diamond ($895), the drawer ($199), receipt printer ($334) and scanner ($129) totals $1,557. The Diamond Package includes all four items, cables, installation CDs, manuals, no sales tax and shipping for $1,399.

Barcodes, QR Codes (on drivers licences) and Scanners

PPSS prints and reads barcodes on price labels and hang tags and will not read barcodes created by other sources.

Most states have converted from a magnetic strip on the back of drivers licenses to QR codes which can be read by the same scanner.

The Symcode scanner ($197, no tax, free shipping) is '2D' (two dimensional) for scanning barcodes on price labels (created by BCSS) and for scanning QR codes. It is wireless with a maximum scanning distance of 98 feet. An auto-sense stand is included as well as a Lithium Polymer battery.
Fingerprint Scanner ($199) FBI and STQC Certified finger scanner with auto adjustment for brightness yielding high quality prints even from dry, wet, scared or aged skin. Auto-On is an Automatic Finger Placement Detection technology that will turn on and scan as soon as the sensor is touched.
Web Cam Logitech HD C270 Webcam - USB 2.0 ($75)

Each scanner is shipped tax-free and free of charge with a user's guide, cable (and power supply where applicable).

Cash Drawers

A cash register is different from a cash drawer. All cash registers have a cash drawer (for storing money). A cash register records sales and provides a printout at the end of the day for balancing the cash drawer. Pawnbroker Pawn Shop Software, a receipt printer and a cash drawer act as a 'cash register'.

new The Instant-Cash-Drawer-Balance feature in PPSS Diamond or 24k tracks each salesperson's balance in real time and determines how much cash should be in the till at any time. Multiple employees can transact from the same POS station or on the same network by logging in and out and maintaining separate drawers.

cash drawer
The POS-X Heavy-Duty Cash Drawer ($179 or $199) attaches to the receipt printer and opens when a sales receipt is printed. It can connect directly to the PC if a printer is not used ($199). Either way it can be opened in PPSS by pressing a keyboard key. The drawer has a lock and key.

Receipt Printers

A receipt printer prints on 3-inch-wide roll paper with the details of the sale: date, items, quantity, price, subtotal, tax, total amount.

receipt
The ION Thermal Receipt Printer (5 x 6 x 6, $334) is a 'silent' jam-free thermal printer which prints 1 or more copies of 1-ply RECEIPTS (not price labels). Font size and density can be changed. Messages and logos can be printed.

Each POS-X printer is shipped tax-free (except TX) and free of charge with a guide, cable and installation CD. Support is free (800-790-8657).

The following receipt printers work with PPSS to varying degrees of success and are not supported or recommended: (EASYSET A9 MiniPrinter (some odd characters possible), Epson M-188A, TM6000II, TM-T88, TM-T88IV and TM-U220, Samsung SRP350, SNBC BTP-2002NP, Star SP212, TSP600/700, TSP 613 and DP8340)

Thermal Label Printers

Direct thermal printers use a thermal printhead that applies heat to chemically-treated paper, creating the print on labels. A black line (adhesive) or gap (non-adhesive) across the back forces the printer to print before moving forward, so there is less waste.

new PPSS prints 2" to 4"-wide horizontal thermal labels (adhesive labels and non-adhesive hang tags) - from 1" to 4" high using the TSC TDP-244/246/247/DA210 or 2" horizontal labels with the TSC TDP-225. Bar codes may be printed on labels (or not).

There are 3 options with sheet labels: Adhesive 2 5/8 x 1 (with bar code) and 1 3/4 x 1/2 (too small for bar codes); Non-adhesive 4 x 1 'hang tag' (with bar codes).

There are 16 varieties and sizes of thermal labels, all with optional bar codes, ranging from a 2.25 x .5 jewelry label to a 2-part tear-off hang tag to 4 x 4 adhesive label.

Refer to the label chart in the PPSS Manual for label types and sizes. (Buy tags from Barcode Warehouse.)

tsc
The TSC DA210 printer (9 x 6 x 11) is $379, and 2550 2" x 1" labels are $7-8. Printing cost is less than printing sheet labels because labels are cheaper, there's no ink or ribbon and fewer labels are wasted (from paper jams, out-of-ink runs, smeared labels, etc). It is also considerably easier to print one or several labels.

Used/refurbished printers and Zebra printers are compatible but they are neither recommended or supported, however, support for any hardware is available from our support, 888-427-5779.

Laser Printers

PPSS (and any ink or dot matrix printer) can print tickets, checks, reports, sales invoices, address labels, price labels and hang tags (with or without bar codes) - on 8.5 x 11 sheets.

Disadvantages of printing invoices and labels this way are inconvenience, ink and paper usage and labels wasted from paper jams and out-of-ink runs.

Similarly, price labels and hang tags can be printed at lesser cost over the long run using a thermal label printer and PPSS Diamond or 24k.

PPSS System Requirements

Pawnbroker Pawn Shop Software is a Windows program. Apple says Windows programs can run on a MAC with Windows and their Basecamp software installed.

Windows

The following are the MINIMUM requirements for Windows alone:

  • Processor = 2 GHz or faster
  • RAM = 4 GB
  • Disc Space = 16 GB 32 bit; 20 GB 64 bit
  • Video = DirectX 9 capable device with WDDM 1.0 or higher
  • Clean installation suggested with no bloatware.

For PPSS purposes, RAM should be at least 4GB (8-16GB for larger stores) and the processor should have a clock speed of 3.0 GHz or more.

Touchscreen Monitors

touch
PPSS supports touchscreen technology. In the program go to File > Program Setup > Sales and check 'Use Touchscreen for Sales'.
